Citicoline, a popular nootropic supplement that is also known as CDP choline (cytidine diphosphate choline), is an organic molecule produced endogenously and is found in all living cells. The two major components of Citicoline are Choline and Cytidine (Cytidine is converted to Uridine in the body). CDP choline is a precursor for the synthesis of important phospholipids. These phospholipids are essential to cell membranes including phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylserine, and phosphatidyl-ethanolamine. Phospholipids must be continuously synthesized for adequate function of cells due to their high turnover rate.
Considered by many to be a "brain nutrient," Citicoline increases levels of a number of important neurotransmitters including acetylcholine, dopamine and noradrenaline. Citicoline also helps maintain the integrity of neuronol cell membranes and increases energy production in the frontal cortex.
Citicoline benefits and uses may include:
Citicoline is thought to affect a number of neurotransmitters including Dopamine, Norepinephrine, and Acetylcholine which may positively influence mood and cognitive function. Cognitive enhancements may include improved memory, faster recall speed and increased learning capacity. A 2013 Italian studied showed that Citicoline may alleviating pressure in the veins of our eyes. Some have reported colors appearing brighter or sharper. Additionally, citicoline supplements have been reported to potentially have vasodialation effects.
Citicoline may also display neuroprotective benefits. It is believed Citicoline may be neuroprotective due to its ability to preserve cardiolipin and sphingomyelin, preservation of arachidonic acid content of phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine, partial restoration of phosphatidylcholine levels, and stimulation of glutathione synthesis and glutathione reductase activity.
Centrophenoxine, Piracetam and Citicoline have each been compared to one another in terms of their potential nootropic benefits. In one rodent study, researchers concluded that citicoline may have the ability to support memory formation. Citicoline is commonly paired with dietary supplements or nootropic compounds in various nootropic stacks.
As a dietary supplement, take 300mg of Citicoline once daily.
Nootropics Depot offers 30g or 60g jars of high quality Citicoline Sodium Powder. Nootropics Depot's Citicoline Sodium has been lab-tested and verified for both product purity and identity.

Recommended for anyone with insufficient sources of choline in their diet, such as eggs, etc,, or someone who uses a type of racetam. This is probably one of the better brands I've tried for citicoline, though it's sad to see ND has essentially stopped selling this product, since it hasn't been in stock for months. I've gotten several things from nootropicsdepot before and never had any issue. When the Citicoline powder came in, there was powder inside the plastic seal around the bottle. Better safe than sorry, I emailed their support and asked about it.
I didn't get the typical copy-paste response one would normally expect. I got a clear, concise response targeting exactly the issue I brought up. They said that it is normal and can happen when the powder isn't blown off well enough. Unknown on 10th Apr 2017
This is my favorite choline source by far. I was a little confused at first what the difference was between CDP choline and citicoline sodium. I figured out CDP choline is the same thing as citicoline. This is the sodium salt, which is supposedly the most effective form. I can certainly say it works for me. Alpha GPC works well too. However this gives me more reliable daily effects. Jess on 21st Jan 2016
