Ashwagandha, which is scientifically known as Withania somnifera, is a plant that belongs to the nightshade family. It appears as a short perennial herb with bright, orange-red fruit and green, bell-shaped flowers.
The herb, particularly its roots, is one of the foundational components in Ayurvedic medicine and has been used for centuries as a natural remedy and cure-all for a variety of conditions and disorders, much like ginseng. In traditional medicine, ashwagandha was used to help recover from illnesses and improve vitality, virility, and immunities. It was also used as an alternative for muscle aches, tumors, and even certain forms of cancer.
While ashwagandha appears in various formulations and extracts, KSM-66 is unique as the highest concentration full-spectrum extract. Full spectrum refers to an extract that contains a balance of components from the original herb instead of over-representing any single component.
The exact mechanisms of action have yet to be determined, though it is understood that ashwagandha is an adaptogen. Adaptogens refer to natural compounds designed to help you adapt to stress and maintain homeostasis to prevent negative physiological effects caused by stress.
Much of the herb’s effects come from a blend of its active constituents, which mainly comprise alkaloids like somniferine, tropine, and withanine, along with steroidal lactones known as withanolides. More than 140 withanolides have been identified and isolated in ashwagandha.
KSM-66 ashwagandha extract benefits are wide ranging. As an adaptogen, ashwagandha creates a sense of relaxation, increasing its potential use as a supplement for stress relief. Ashwagandha achieves this by reducing the immunosuppressive effects caused by stress and the concentrations of cortisol (the main stress hormone, in your body). This may also be beneficial to those suffering from depression or anxiety. It blocks harmful stress responses and induces calming effects, many of which are similar to GABA (gamma aminobutyric acid). It can also potentially help ease those suffering from ADHD or other hyperactive disorders. Even to those with relatively healthy minds, ashwagandha has shown a generally soothing effect.
As a nootropic, ashwagandha has been shown to increase mental focus. Early studies also suggest that the herb can help to improve memory formation and may potentially be used as an alternative for Alzheimer’s disease, though these findings require more studies and evidence.
Ashwagandha has also been shown to possess powerful antioxidant properties and neuroprotective abilities. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals, compounds created during the process of cellular oxidation. Free radicals can damage cells in your brain and body, leading to age-related degenerative problems. Antioxidants prevent this damage, potentially resulting in greater longevity.
Although ashwagandha cannot specifically treat cancer, it is often recommended for cancer patients. Studies suggest that its soothing properties can ease the pain caused by chemotherapy and other treatments by reducing fatigue and stress. Ashwagandha may also prevent immunosuppression.
Ashwagandha has also shown high potential for improving physical health. Research shows that the herb features powerful anti-inflammatory properties, which may be helpful to those suffering long-term joint or muscle pain. It has also been shown to lower blood pressure and reduce LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol.
Early studies suggest that ashwagandha may be an effective alternative for arthritis, diabetes, cerebellar ataxia, and certain liver conditions. Other studies have found that the herb may be used to reduce symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.

I have enjoyed taking this Ashwagandha. It has improved my memory, as well as my cognitive and creative abilities. What I like about it, is also what I dislike about it. It really accents my emotions. When I am happy, I am really happy, but when I am angry or frustrated, I become rude, and almost intolerable to be around. So bad so that I notice how poorly I am behaving whilst I am behaving that way! Has anyone else had this issue? Otherwise, a good product! Unknown on 7th Jan 2017
This is the best ashwaganda i've ever tried. Nootropics depot continues to impress me again and again. Thank you for your integrity and prompt professional service. Kyle on 3rd Dec 2016
This product and the other product I purchased from Nootropics Depot (L-Theanine) are extremely potent. I had my doubts about trying Ashwagandha again after using it in the past with not effects, but am admittedly more than satisfied with the results of this product. It completely obliterates stress; you don't care about anything negative in your life after taking this product for two weeks. The only negative aspect of using this product would be the sleepiness I experience when using the product and that is the only reason I must discontinue using the product. Unknown on 27th Oct 2016
This is the stuff you are looking for. Perfect for keeping you calm during the day, but not making you tired or drowsy. I take one of these in the morning, and I can actually stand my coworkers! Unknown on 20th Oct 2016
helps with anxiety dosent take it all away but lowers it to be able to deal with it mentally! helps a bit with depression also! works even better in a stack but stand alone useful also. Rick on 17th Sep 2016
i was using another asshwagandha product but find the KSM-66 far superior. I can feel the relief of stress as I go throughout my day. It clearly has helped me reduce my cortisol levels as I can see a decrease in my midsection. I highly recommend this product and thank Nootropics Depot for a quality product and fast shipping. This is my first month of taking Nootropic Depot's KSM-66. I am really pleased with the calming effects in seems to exert, as well as the fact that after swallowing, there is no aftertaste as I have experienced with other Ashwaganda supplements. The capsules are smaller than the big "00" size caps, which makes them easy to swallow. Personally, I find them more useful in the late afternoon and early evening. I've observed some moderate easing of stress and mild (but significant) enhancement after some unusually long days of meetings, calls, and driving (extra stress). I do take more than the recommended dosage, but have offset by skipping on some days. Perhaps I need to remain consistent with taking same, rec. amount daily? All around: Def worth a try and I would not attempt to seek anywhere outside of Nootropics Depot. Chris R. on 24th Aug 2016
Thanks, MYASD/ND/Ceretropic/Paul/team, for carrying this. I think it's helping a good friend with some anxiety issues, and he's only in his first week. This is much better than western medicine's approach of popping synthroid and benzodiazepines into your body until you (or your penis) collapse(s).
He seems to note an added sense of relaxation, among anything else. I think this is far superior to any ashwagandha extract (and may be the ultimate one, in the end).
+1 for NootropicsDepot, +1 for Ayurveda, +1 for extraction/synthesis//patented consistency.
Thank you Paul and team. You're not only helping me; you're helping my friends, too. srubek on 15th Aug 2016
Since I started taking KSM-66 it feels like recovery after exercise has been exceptionally improved, which is great for me since I have NAFLD. Cortisol is a huge factor and suppressing it even a little is a good thing.
Add some phenibut, a racetam or adrafinil, alpha-GPC and agmatine and that's a nice little stack josh on 3rd Jul 2016
I'm a cyclist and I use this stuff to help with a little extra natural form of recovery and performance increase. I also find this stuff helps me relax, and I find I sleep really well when taking this. Kellz on 3rd Jul 2016
