Red Reishi Mushrooms, also known as lingzhi mushrooms or by their scientific name Ganoderma lucidum, have been used for over 2,000 years in Chinese medicine. Red Reishi Mushrooms were first used in Chinese medicine in during the Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD) and information about them appear in classical Chinese medical texts.
Red Reishi Mushrooms have a striking flat, red-varnished cap shaped similar to a kidney or clamshell, with white or brown pores on the underside. These soft and corky mushrooms have a long history and intriguing appearance, and Red Reishi Mushroom Extract has various purported benefits.
Red Reishi Mushroom uses span many areas of health. Studies have shown that Red Reishi Mushroom benefits include the following:
In one study, Red Reishi Mushrooms inhibited four kinds of allergic reactions, including allergic asthma and contact dermatitus, which can come from things like poison oak or nickel-based jewelery.
Function and Constituents of Red Reishi Mushroom Extract
Red Reishi Mushroom Extract contains several compounds that lend to its effects. For one, the mushroom synthesizes ganoderic acids which share similar molecular structure to steroids. Other compounds include polysaccharides, notably beta-glucans, and coumarin, mannitol, and alkaloids.
Red Reishi Mushroom Extract also contains fungal immunomodulatory proteins (FIPs), which help bolster the immune system by stimulating certain cells and components that facilitate the immune response.
Red Reishi Mushrooms, and mushrooms in general, have two main components: mycelium and fruiting bodies. The mycelium is to a mushroom what roots are to a tree. The fruiting body portion of a mushroom is the stem and cap we see above the surface of the growing media.
The whole fruiting body contains the components that are essential to Red Reishi Mushroom benefits, so they are a necessary part of production. The mycelium and subsequent whole fruiting body can be grown on a bed of grain. However, many producers, even the most popular ones, unfortunately only let the mycelium develop to save costs and speed up the process. The mycelium is ground together with the grain and falsely sold as Red Reishi Mushroom Extract.
You can actually test this for yourself. Products produced via this method will contain a high amount of starch due to the grain, which can be tested by mixing the mushroom powder with water and a drop of iodine. A dark blue or purple color indicates high starch levels.
This is why Nootropics Depot has partnered with Nammex to ensure that our customers can buy Red Reishi Mushroom Extract that is authentic and effective. Nammex’s organic, whole fruiting body extracts contain the essential compounds that make Red Reishi Mushrooms helpful to us.

Really excellent stuff. Quality is on point as with all ND's mushroom extracts I have ordered in the past (Lion's Mane regular, Cordyceps regular & 8:1).
Tried this to help my Psoriasis after noticing some possibly related, mild arthritis symptoms. Have been taking 1 to 2 g, 2-3 times per day for about two weeks now. I notice a very natural calm and clear-heading feeling after I take it, and my psoriasis has cleared up significantly even after cutting back severely on my topical Rx medicine. It also seems to ease my joint pain and stiffness.
I like to mix 1 g each of this and ND's Lion's Mane 8:1 into my bulletproof coffee in the morning - makes morning college classes a breeze. Would sincerely recommend this to almost anyone.
Thank you ND!!!!! :) Al on 26th Nov 2018
I was using the 4:1 for sometime until this 8:1 was released. So far so good but my only complaint is that its such a strong taste with the 8:1 its hard to enjoy it with my morning coffee compared to how well the 4:1 sat with my coffee. I have mostly been putting in capsules when I dose now. Clark on 11th Jun 2018
Having knowledge of medicinal mushrooms, I bought this because of a common (albeit violent) cold. I could have chosen from many sources but trust NootropicsDepot for many reasons. I can accurately state the following: I started this product for the "common cold" at 5 days after symptoms presented. Within 2 days symptoms were reduced significantly and pathogenic phlegm was being expelled at an accelerated rate. Within 4 days only mild symptoms were present (mild bronchial and nasal discharge) and no malaise was present whatsoever. Within 7 days, symptoms were almost completely gone and I felt a general sense of revitalization. At approximately 10 days, most of my co-workers (who all had contracted this cold already) had a recurrance while I remained in remission.

I love Nootropics Depot's 1:1 reishi powder. I use it daily, and like the high beta glucan content. I have started to use this more potent extract a couple times a week to get some triterpines. This extract is more bitter, as you would expect from a concentrated resihi extract. I find this 4:1 extract helps my allergies more than the 1:1. I like having the option of using the 1:1 for beta glucans, or the 4:1 for triterpenes. Gabe Lau on 6th Aug 2016
