Agmatine sulfate is a biogenic amine stored in the brain’s neurons and is released when these neurons are activated. It is derived from the amino acid L-arginine during decarboxylation reactions, which involves the removal of a carboxyl group. Agmatine sulfate is sometimes considered as a neurotransmitter or neuromodulator. From various studies and clinical trials, agmatine sulfate shows promise as a nootropic that may improve general cognitive health.
The main mode of action that has been studied in agmatine sulfate involves regulation and inhibition of NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate acid) and glutamate receptors. NMDA is a an amino acid derivative with a similar role and structure as glutamate. Small amounts of NMDA may be necessary to normal cognitive function and health, but the compound is more often considered an excitotoxin. This refers to compounds that may overexcite nerve cells by flooding receptors. This over-activation and excitation may lead to cell damage or even cell death.
NMDA and glutamate are closely tied. Glutamate is a neurotransmitter and your body’s main mediator of excitatory signals in the brain. NMDA may cause an increased amount of glutamate. While glutamate is involved in nearly every cognitive function, sensitivities to glutamate or sudden floods of the neurotransmitter causes glutamate-induced excitotoxicity.
The potential agmatine sulfate benefits you may receive are similar to those of arginine, though agmatine sulfate may be more powerful. Research suggests that agmatine sulfate may act as a powerful antioxidant. Antioxidants are designed to neutralize free radicals, a natural product of cellular oxidation. Free radicals can damage and mutate cells, leading to a variety of potential disorders.
Research indicates that agmatine sulfate is a neuroprotective agent. Along with its potential status as an antioxidant, agmatine sulfate may prevent over-activity and excitotxicity induced by excess NMDA and glutamate. Glutamate has also been found to be one of the main neurotransmitters involved in memory function and neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity refers to your brain’s ability to change and adjust based on new experiences, emotions, and environments. This is essentially your brain’s ability to learn new things and reorganize information. Through agmatine sulfate, you may potentially improve your brain’s learning abilities and memory functions.
Agmatine sulfate may also present benefits for athletes. Studies show that agmatine sulfate may improve the body’s response to insulin, which may then contribute to leaner, harder, and larger muscles.
Agmatine sulfate has also been observed in some studies to regulate nitric oxide production. Nitric oxide is a molecule naturally produced in the body that plays a role in the transmission of signals between nerve cells in the body. Aging can reduce nitric oxide levels in the body and reduce its overall efficiency. Nitric oxide plays a role in a variety of internal processes, including reducing inflammation, regulating blood pressure, and assisting the immune system. In terms of cognitive processes, nitric oxide has been observed to help memory and behavior.

My intended use was for athletic performance. It definitely increases blood flow to muscles in response to training, similar to arginine alpha ketoglutarate. The decrease in pain threshold was odd, but not unbearable. I would recommend only taking on workout days about 30 minutes to 1 hour prior to the start of exercise.
I take other nootropics so it would be hard to isolate any mental benefits from this alone. Unknown on 3rd Sep 2017
Seems to be more effective than other nootropics.
Agmatine sulf is not promoted much but produces better results than some promoted nootropics on areas of attention & mood.
Needs to be taken about 2-3 weeks to notice effects.
Apparantly it is highly bioavailable so its absorbed well.

Nootropics Depot provides great quality products and I trust them for that. From my experience it is great for pumps in the gym anywhere from 500-1000mg. Also, if you use sparingly, gives a great feeling of overall well being in the same dosage. Supposedly lowers tolerance to certain herbs or drugs, but does not work as well as abstinence for some time in that regard. nick on 11th May 2017
