Lion's Mane, Hericium erinaceus (bearded tooth mushroom, satyr's beard, bearded hedgehog mushroom, pom pom mushroom, or bearded tooth fungus), is an edible mushroom belonging to the tooth fungus group. Native to North America, Europe and Asia it can be identified by its long spines (greater than 1 cm length), its appearance on hardwoods and its tendency to grow a single clump of dangling spines. In the wild, these mushrooms are common during late summer and fall on hardwoods, particularly American Beech.
Hericium erinaceus contains a number of polysaccharides, such as B-glucan, heteroglucans, heteroxylans, as several cyanthane derivative triterpenes known as hericenone and erinacine. These latter compounds are found in the fruitbody and mycelium respectively. Hericium erinaceus has long a history of traditional use.
Nootropics Depot has partnered with Nammex to offer these certified Organic whole fruiting body extracts, with not only testing to verify the percentage of active beta glucans, but verification that starch content is low, and that there are no pesticide residues. One of the biggest controversies in the mushroom industry today is the use of mycelium on grain extracts. Mycelium is to a mushroom like what roots are to a tree. When grown properly, they will form whole fruiting bodies; which are called mushrooms. However, to save money, most US producers of mushroom extracts today grow the mycelium on a bed of grain, like rice. To speed up production, and to make the end product cheaper to produce, these manufacturers grind up the mycelium and grain together, before allowing them to form whole fruiting bodies. The issue with that is that mycelium is not a mushroom, just like the roots of a tree are not a tree. The beneficial compounds in these mushroom species are all studied with relation to their fruiting bodies. The FDA even states that mycelium is not allowed to be called "mushrooms." However, many of the biggest brands today thwart that FDA guideline, and put out a cheaply-made, mislabeled, and ultimately inneffective products. They hide this fact by standardizing to "polysaccharides" instead of "β-Glucans." Well guess what shows up as polysaccharides in the traditional testing? Carbohydrates! Yes, the very carbohydrates from the rice used to grow the mycelium is used as a measure of the active ingredient in these substandard extracts. When you are buying one of the major mushroom extracts on store shelves today, you are buying a bunch of ground up rice mixed in with mycelium! It's a scam! This is why we decided to partner with Nammex. We are selling only certified Organic whole fruiting body extracts, which have been tested for not only the active β-Glucans, but to ensure the starch content is low; to prove what you are getting is actual mushroom, not ground up rice. You will know right away how big of a difference it is. You can even go to the store right now, and pick out one of the major mushroom brands. Mix the "mushroom" powder into some water, and ad a drop of iodine. It will quickly turn a dark purple/blue, indicating high amounts of starch. You'll immediately see how big of a scam it is, and just how many "trusted" brands are in on it!

To start... I had to leave a star off for the seemingly slow delivery. It could have been christmas deliveries or the difficulty with mail where I live it seems, but beyond that, all is going well. I have enjoyed the product. It appears fresh and high quality. I have been dealing with a little attempt of a bug trying grab hold and so far it has not got the strangle-hold on me. Perhaps due to the fungi. Time will tell. I also have interest in its metabolism effects and effects on the brain. As mentioned, time will tell. I am pleased though. So far, so good.
ND Admin: Thanks for the review. However, we checked your order history and tracking, and it doesn't seem like there was a delay. You ordered at 7:15am on Dec 2nd, and we shipped it the same day. It was delivered to you 2 days later on December 4th. That's fast for USPS Priority. Did you mean to select next day shipping? Paul on 1st Jan 2018
Natural & effective. I have been using lion's mane almost daily for nearly a year, this particular brand for about 2 months, & I am enjoying the clarity & focus it provides me. I use in combination w other tried & true herbs/mushrooms in my coffees throughout the day & I notice a marked change if I leave this mushroom out of my mix. I get a positive mental fluidity, plus the stamina to chase a 2 year old all day without stuttering by the end of it ;)
and I miss this supplement when I am without it a few days, interestingly, like a light craving. Or do I just miss my mentally stimulating little friend? tobbe on 18th Sep 2017
I have been taking my LION'S MANE (HERICIUM ERINACEUS) WHOLE FRUITING BODY MEDICINAL MUSHROOM EXTRACT POWDER for well over two weeks now, and I can definitely feel a noticeable difference in my overall mental clarity.
It is also really "tasteless" and goes really well with my lunchtime green smoothies. Unknown on 25th Aug 2017
This is a high quality product, tastes great, was shipped quickly for cross border shipping and the costs were very good, I highly recommend the product and this company. Dr. David on 10th Jun 2017
hey i mix some in my coffee & makes for good day tommy on 19th Apr 2017
This is a high quality product, which can even be tasted and smelled. I love the natural fragrance of this powder. Lion's Mane seems to be a rather subtle nootropic, but I have definitely noticed a some cognitive enhancements after supplementing 1/4 teaspoon daily for several weeks. It has made a great addition to my stack.
I am a huge fan of Nootropics Depot and will continue to purchase from them. The degree of customer service and product care is beautiful. Andy Houston on 20th Mar 2017
PC's Lion's Mane powder I bought in the past tasted really really bad and not all like fresh "fruiting bodies". I have harvested and eaten fresh Lion's Mane before in the PNW and this stuff tastes exactly like the wild mushroom!
I really like the (subtle) effects - a calm increase in clarity and desire to learn. Effects for me are similar in nature and magnitude to starting up fish oil after a break. I did not have a super delayed onset as some mention; the effects were noticeable beginning on the second day. I recommend this over -racetams all day long. Goes well with NSI-189... Will not buy from anyone else. Nootropics depot definitely has the best quality. One of the most effective supplements I've taken. Unknown on 31st Oct 2016
So far, I have felt much clearer headed, more in touch with my emotions, and enhanced mood. I would be interested to know how this product will impact me after a several months of use. Unknown on 26th Sep 2016
It is hard to evaluate this because of the long action and the other supplements I have been experimenting with. Rob on 8th Sep 2016
