Lion's Mane, Hericium erinaceus (bearded tooth mushroom, satyr's beard, bearded hedgehog mushroom, pom pom mushroom, or bearded tooth fungus), is an edible mushroom belonging to the tooth fungus group. Native to North America, Europe and Asia it can be identified by its long spines (greater than 1 cm length), its appearance on hardwoods and its tendency to grow a single clump of dangling spines. In the wild, these mushrooms are common during late summer and fall on hardwoods, particularly American Beech.
Hericium erinaceus contains a number of polysaccharides, such as B-glucan, heteroglucans, heteroxylans, as several cyanthane derivative triterpenes known as hericenone and erinacine. These latter compounds are found in the fruitbody and mycelium respectively. Hericium erinaceus has long a history of use in traditional Chinese medicine.
Nootropics Depot has partnered with Nammex to offer these certified Organic whole fruiting body extracts, with not only testing to verify the percentage of active beta glugcans, but verififaction that starch content is low, and that there are no pesticide residues. One of the biggest conroversies in the mushroom industry today is the use of mycelium on grain extracts. Mycelium is to a mushrom like what roots are to a tree. When grown properly, they will form whole fuiting bodies; which are called mushrooms. However, to save money, most US producers of mushroom extracts today grow the mycelium on a bed of grain, like rice. To speed up production, and to make the end product cheaper to produce, these manufacturers grind up the mycelium and grain together, before allowing them to form whole fruiting bodies. The issue with that is that mycelium is not a mushroom, just like the roots of a tree are not a tree. The beneficial compounds in these mushroom species are all studied with relation to their fruiting bodies. The FDA even states that mycelium is not allowed to be called "mushrooms." However, many of the biggest brands today thwart that FDA guideline, and put out a cheaply-made, mislabeled, and ultimately inneffective products. They hide this fact by standardizing to "polysaccharides" instead of "β-Glucans." Well guess what shows up as polysaccharides in the traditional testing? Carbohydrates! Yes, the very carbohydrates from the rice used to grow the mycelium is used as a measure of the active ingredient in these substandard extracts. When you are buying one of the major mushroom extracts on store shelves today, you are buying a bunch of ground up rice mixed in with mycelium! It's a scam! This is why we decided to partner with Nammex. We are selling only certified Organic whole fruiting body extracts, which have been tested for not only the active β-Glucans, but to ensure the strach content is low; to prove what you are getting is actual mushroom, not ground up rice. You will know right away how big of a difference it is. You can even go to the store right now, and pick out one of the major mushroom brands. Mix the "mushroom" powder into some water, and ad a drop of iodine. It will quickly turn a dark purple/blue, indicating high amounts of starch. You'll immediately see how big of a scam it is, and just how many "trusted" brands are in on it!

hey i mix some in my coffee & makes for good day tommy on 19th Apr 2017
This is a high quality product, which can even be tasted and smelled. I love the natural fragrance of this powder. Lion's Mane seems to be a rather subtle nootropic, but I have definitely noticed a some cognitive enhancements after supplementing 1/4 teaspoon daily for several weeks. It has made a great addition to my stack.
I am a huge fan of Nootropics Depot and will continue to purchase from them. The degree of customer service and product care is beautiful. Andy Houston on 20th Mar 2017
PC's Lion's Mane powder I bought in the past tasted really really bad and not all like fresh "fruiting bodies". I have harvested and eaten fresh Lion's Mane before in the PNW and this stuff tastes exactly like the wild mushroom!
I really like the (subtle) effects - a calm increase in clarity and desire to learn. Effects for me are similar in nature and magnitude to starting up fish oil after a break. I did not have a super delayed onset as some mention; the effects were noticeable beginning on the second day. I recommend this over -racetams all day long. Goes well with NSI-189... Will not buy from anyone else. Nootropics depot definitely has the best quality. One of the most effective supplements I've taken. Unknown on 31st Oct 2016
So far, I have felt much clearer headed, more in touch with my emotions, and enhanced mood. I would be interested to know how this product will impact me after a several months of use. Unknown on 26th Sep 2016
It is hard to evaluate this because of the long action and the other supplements I have been experimenting with. Rob on 8th Sep 2016
I really love this new lions mane extract. I really like the old 10:1 version, but decided to try this one after reading through their blog post. I am glad I did. Lions mane does take a week or two to build up in your system, and this extract is no different. However, I notice my memory and mood improving on it, and just feel all around healthier when taking it. I've since started trying other mushroom extracts, and will review those as well. But I will definitely keep this a part of my daily routine. Sarah Romeyn on 25th Jun 2016
After a turbinectomy surgery, my nose started to feel hollow/empty because the nerve endings were cut off. After using this product for a month, I can clearly say that there's progress. Maybe not a miracle but I'm getting there. Would suggest anyone with peripheral nerve injuries. Sinan D on 1st Jun 2016
I actually look forward to taking this because it smells good and has a very natural and tasty...taste haha. I take roughly 800mg along with about 500mg of the ND lion's mane extract with two ksm-66 caps before bed and it knocks me right out. Has my memory improved? I dunno, but it tastes good and helps me sleep so I'll keep buying it. It'd be pretty cool if you guys could blend the two powders for me though. I'm not sure if particle size and density might make that difficult but if it's possible....and it has me opening one lid instead of two every night....totally should start doing that ;)...omg, throw the ksm-66 in there also! Memory improved? Still not sure, but cognitive abilities? I just threw down some genius level sh*t! Unknown on 27th Apr 2016
