Gotu Kola
Consistent calming effect that I don't get from other nootropics. The taste reminds me of bacopa monnieri. Awesome stuff!
Gotu Kola, scientific name Centella asiatica and sometimes referred to as Asiatic Pennywort, Indian Pennywort and Tsubokusa; is a perennial plant native to India, China, Japan, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, South Africa and the South Pacific. As an aquatic plant, it grows abundantly in tropical, swampy areas and is known for its fan-shaped green leaves and white, purple or pink flowers. Traditionally, both the leaves and stems of the Centella asiatica plant are used to obtain its reported health benefits.
Gotu Kola’s history of use, as well as its nootropic benefits, are very similar to that of Bacopa monnieri – even to the extent that they have even shared common names such as Brahmi. Due to its similar name, Gotu Kola has also been often confused for the Kola Nut as well. However, it should be noted that, unlike Kola Nuts, it is not stimulating nor does it contain any caffeine whatsoever. Much the opposite, in fact, as Gotu Kola has been reported to actually promote relaxation. In China, it has often been referred to as “the fountain of life” and is renowned in traditional Ayurveda as a memory supplement among its other benefits and uses.
As a dietary or nootropic supplement, Gotu Kola benefits may include:
The active chemicals in Gotu Kola are known as triterpenoids. Some studies conducted on triterpenoids suggest they may benefit memory function, promote healthy stress levels as well as increase the strength and volume of collagen.*
Much like Bacopa monnieri, it is reported that it may take a few weeks for Gotu Kola’s cognitive-enhancing benefits to take a noticeable effect. It is believed this is due to Gotu Kola activating a class of proteins known as mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs), which then in turn causes a release in a growth factor for neurons called brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). This may support neuronal growth which promotes brain plasticity and communication between brain cells. In 1992, a study of rats concluded a positive effect on memory function when they were supplemented with a Gotu Kola extract daily for fourteen days. Learned-behavior retention was then measured to be 3 to 60 times better in those rats than that of the control animals in the same study.
Other studies indicate that an additional Gotu Kola benefit may be its ability to support the brain from neurotoxins such as a lead, arsenic and aluminum.*
Yes, this Gotu Kola Extract is standardized to a minimum 35-45% Triterpenes, 15-25% Madecassoside + Asiaticoside B, and 15-20% Asiaticoside.
As a dietary supplement, take 120mg of Gotu Kola Extract powder 2-3 times daily.

Consistent calming effect that I don't get from other nootropics. The taste reminds me of bacopa monnieri. Awesome stuff!
This one was interesting. I felt a sense of calmness quickly. I went through this one quicker than the tablets. But, I can say it was different. I say you should grab BOTH Power and capsules. Just great to have on deck for calm focus. I stacked Sabroxy, skullcap, and Panamax, for the BEST calm low key focus I have experienced.
Both The capsules and powder have different effects on me. But I highly recommend for anyone just wanting to wind down, Or take the edge of something stimulating, Very versatile. I didn't feel the more cerebral effect. But definitely the calm was there. If I were you, I would order Both the enteric capsules and the powder.
I think that it helps me with hair loss! it is good against anxiousness and sadness maybe... But it was a big surprise to see that my hair stopped falling so easily. I'm so happy for this!
This stuff will work wonders on your skin health. The only problem for me is it made my skin feel a bit dehydrated, but that's an uncommon problem that doesn't plague many people since I deal with dehydrated skin from stuff like caffeine. Also noticed some good cognitive benefits and sleep benefits. I do put it on my top 5 for terrible tasting nootropics though, it's nasty tasting.
Works great for random memories popping up out of nowhere that were very vivid and noticed the specific feelings that were specific to those memories (like the decade the memory happened in and the vibe of everything in that memory). Skin looking more vibrant as well. I take it in the morning and works better with coffee and my other nootropics. I feel its better to experience memories taking it during the day and like someone else stated it tends to ruin my sleep if taken before bed, but everyone’s different , maybe it will help someone else sleep. Excellent for calming anxiousness too!
Excellent product
Over the past few months I have tried a number of products from ND. Long time customer but there was a break since I got back in nootropics. I have found the quality to be excellent. However there are some noots/supps that really stand out above the rest. And I think I can say this is one of them. About a month ago I started taking this for the calming effects. Something that I am not sure if it does much for me. However, what I knew but it was something that didn't occur to me when it was happening. It wasn't until about a week ago I connected the dots in which for the rest of the evening I had been remembering things I did, said or went through, quite vividly from however recent to up to 20 years ago. To me. it doesn't matter if I remember precisely what I recollected the next day, detail to detail. What is important is that it is helping me come to terms with things in my past. And I honestly think doing so has contributed to me changing my perspective on life and becoming a better, happier person. Or just take this and listen to Enya and feel amazing. So I guess it relaxes you. haha. Cheers
I’ve been taking this for about three weeks so I feel it’s time to write a review. When I first started taking 120mg 3x a day, I didn’t really feel many benefits. I understand it’s at the higher end of the spectrum, but for me, 250mg 3x a day has nearly completely eliminated my anxiety and has helped my sleep tremendously. It also seems to enhance other GABAergics that I take which is a major added bonus. I’m a high wired guy, so this dose would probably make someone tired but for me it eases my worries mind and allows me to relax throughout the day. It’s yet another one of ND’s spectacular products I can NOT run out of. Definitely in my top 5 for mood.
Bought it in November and I think I used it enough to the point I'm able to go through a review. First of all, it almost a certainty it doesn't hurt your liver. When dosing Gotu Kola it's the first thing you normally test, due to its fame having liver toxicity. I researched a lot about it and I would say it's liver toxicity is linked to heavy metals from questionable sources. ND tests heavy metals and is not only a trustable source, but the most trustable one. On top of that, I tested the gotu kola i bought here in three people and we took exams after 3 weeks of dosing, and nothing happened to our livers. Overall, pharmacology is not linear, so I can't say for sure, but I would bet a good money on Gotu Kola not hurting your liver. About the cognitive effects, I will just say I test my brain in different tasks, for more than 3 years, and the first day after taking Gotu kola, I broke two records I thought I never would, (or at least never without something very strong in terms of stimulatory effect). It was not the case, my brain was just very clean and sharp, and seems like my synapses got a bit stronger, but it can be just placebo effect and to be honest It's almost impossible to isolate this effect on me since I take a handful of things. To counter this, I tested it on my brother for 3 weeks, and his brain overall capacity increased, but I don't know to which extend. One thing i'm sure tho: the homeostatic effect is very strong on this one, with the sharpness and mental clarity decreasing very fast (they still there tho, you just don't feel it anymore) About the skin: funny enough, it was the strongest effect. I'm already very committed to skin care (coq10, sunscreen and other basic things) and Gotu Kola took my skin to another level. To finish this review, I will just point out that, if you are more interested in the cognitive effects, go for the tablets. I didn't buy it yet, because I wanted to test the powder first, but the powder having nowhere near the effects of the tablets and yet being very strong just means one thing. Thanks ND for being such a great company
