What is MicroMag Optimized Magnesium?
Magnesium is usually supplied in its most basic form, Magnesium Oxide, due to the fact that on a per weight basis it contains a lot of Elemental Magnesium and is cheap to produce. However, it has very low bioavailability estimated at around 4-5%. Logically it could be said, that since Magnesium Oxide is so cheap, you could simply take more in order to compensate for the low bioavailability, but this is where things get tricky. Since Magnesium Oxide doesn’t get absorbed well in the intestines, it produces a laxative effect which is why one of its main uses is actually as a laxative, however, most supplements, especially Multi-Vitamins actually use Magnesium Oxide simply because it is cheap and looks good on the label.
Luckily various different forms of Magnesium exist that have excellent bioavailability, one of the most common ones is Magnesium Citrate with Magnesium Bisglycinate and Magnesium L-Threonate also being very popular. However, we weren’t satisfied by those, as they still had their drawbacks. So, after a lot of research we settled on a novel form of Magnesium called Sucrosomial Magnesium which has excellent bioavailability. Sucrosomial Magnesium actually starts with Magnesium Oxide due to how much Magnesium it contains on a per weight basis. This Magnesium Oxide is then wrapped in a Phospholipid Membrane which is then enveloped by a Sucrester. The finished product is a Sucrosome Lipid Bilayer with Magnesium Oxide in the center. The Sucrosome Lipid Bilayer is very similar to cell membranes, and due to this, Sucrosomial Magnesium can very readily enter cells which is what makes it so bioavailable. In addition to its superior bioavailbility, it is also absorbed much faster than current Magnesium supplements and produces little to no Gastro Intestinal side effects that can be produced by other Magnesium supplements.
Uses and Benefits of Magnesium
Magnesium is an important dietary mineral, which most of us don’t get enough of because common Western diets lack foods high in Magnesium. In fact, this is such a widespread problem, that Magnesium deficiencies are now the second most common dietary deficiency in developed countries right behind Vitamin D. Magnesium controls a lot of vital biological functions, ranging from maintaining healthy blood pressure and Insulin sensitivity to supporting healthy cognitive functioning.* Due to this, the benefits of Sucrosomial Magnesium are somewhat endless, but to simplify things a little bit, these are the top three benefits of Sucrosomial Magnesium:
- Supports improved overall cognitive health*
- Promotes physical and mental relaxation*
- Supports sleep quality*
Other benefits of Sucrosomial Magnesium are as a potential regulator muscle cramps, although the evidence is a little spotty for this.* This may be due to the fact that many studies on the relationship between Magnesium and muscle cramps, were done with Magnesium Oxide, meaning that the studies were limited by the low oral bioavailability of Magnesium Oxide.
