Milk Thistle
Works Well
Milk Thistle, also known as Silybum marianum, is a flowering herb of the Asteraceae family (which also includes sunflowers and daisies) that may possess oxidation balancing properties.* Native to Mediterranean countries, the Milk Thistle plant is noted for its red or purple flowers, pale green leaves and white veins. The name "Milk Thistle" refers to these white veins as well as the milky-white liquid that seeps from the plant's leaves when they are crushed.
Traditionally, Milk Thistle has a history of usage in the Middle East and Europe as well as noted appearances in traditional Chinese practices and Ayurveda that dates back almost 2000 years. The most common documented Milk Thistle uses in traditional practices are its ability to act as an all natural detoxifier and support liver health.
Uses and benefits of Milk Thistle may include:
Silymarin is the active extract ingredient that is believed to be responsible for Milk Thistle's benefits. Silymarin is comprised of the following flavonolignans listed below which are considered unique to the Milk Thistle plant:
While Milk Thistle seeds can be eaten raw or made into tea or tincture, most people choose to take a high quality Milk Thistle supplement in order to obtain a higher concentrated dose of the active ingredient silymarin. Because of this, Nootropics Depot chooses to only offer a 4:1 extract of Milk Thistle, which provides concentrated amounts of the active, beneficial ingredient silymarin.
As a dietary supplement, take 100mg of Milk Thistle Extract once daily.

Works Well
I originally bought a small jar to test out with the powdered berberine and they work so well together. I would take 250mg 2-3 times a day and lost 10 pounds without changing anything else over the winter (helped me eat less, is all). Then when I ran out I bought the berberine tablets to try. I'm not even halfway through the bottle yet and I felt like I had to get more milk thistle. I felt like the berberine tablets are slightly less effective than the milk thistle and berberine powders combined. So now I take a berberine tablet with an extra 150mg of M.S. and now I'm back to being able to resist grazing all day. Plus I like all the other benefits. M.S. provides
This is my first time using Milk Thistle. I’m using this along side NAC for liver support. In a few months I’ll be going back to the doctor to check my enzymes and I have high hopes it will be a good report. I’ll definitely report back.
Very good product
Nice stuff. good concentration of 4:1.
I was glad that this came in powder form because I get weary of taking pill/capsule supplements. I thought it would be easy to take but after mixing it in hot liquids I discovered real fast that this doesn't dissolve very well--at all. It formulates into chunks that end up on the bottom of the mug which doesn't get consumed. One other thing that I'd like to mention & suggest: currently, there is no way to know how much 250 mg is. No scoop is provided to help the user know. The label just says, "take 250 mg once a day." Okay... so, how much is 250 mg if I have nothing to measure it by? It ends up being a complete guessing game. Crazy. I rarely if ever say this but between the inability to dissolve in hot liquid and no means to measure the correct dosage, this wasn't worth it. Hence, I won't be reordering. :( Wish this was a better review. ND Admin: An accurate scale is a must when dosing powder. Scoops are not accurate forms of measurement, and we feel that providing them promotes unsafe and inaccurate dosing. A milligram scale is absolutely needed when taking any supplement in powder form. This particular one is pretty hard to dissolve, and kind of stains things. So it is for sure not a fun one to handle compared to something like L-theanine.
I used to previously buy 80% silymarin capsules on Amazon but this is good, potent stuff.
Stuff is potent and extremely high quality based on my experience! i've used milk thistle in the past and i never got such an immediate response.
