#044 | The First Real Ecklonia cava on the Market?
Summary
Ecklonia cava is a seaweed variety that grows off the coast of South Korea in the Pacific ocean. After research, testing, and identifying the highest quality Korean Ecklonia cava available, we finally came out with our own Ecklonia cava powder standardized to Dieckol, from a class of compounds called phlorotannins. Ecklonia cava happens to provide an impressive list of benefits - the better known ones being relaxation and skin benefits. But Ecklonia cava works through insulin-like growth factor 1, which is responsible for more than just mood and our hair and skin health. Muscle growth is also affected by IGF-1, as is sleep quality. While Ecklonia cava is a premium product with a premium price to match, its wide ranging benefits and powerful perceptible effects make it very appealing as an all-in-one daily supplement.
Learn more about the mechanisms of action of Ecklonia cava in this month’s podcast, and discover how it works on the gaba receptors and insulin-like growth factor 1. Emiel breaks down the science, and Erika provides some reflections on the perceptible benefits of Ecklonia cava as it takes its effects during the 1-hour podcast episode. For those of you looking for relaxation, and noticeable benefits for your physical appearance (hair, skin, and muscle tone), look no further than Ecklonia cava!

#043 | All About Lion's Mane
Summary
Lion’s Mane is one of the most popular mushrooms on the market for relaxation, mood, and neurogenesis. It’s no surprise that Lion’s Mane has been used for centuries for its health benefits in Japan and China, and by many other cultures in the Northern Hemisphere of the world as well. But, Lion’s Mane has the first chair in most people’s functional mushroom blends. In fact, our favorite podcast pick-me-up is a Mushroom Magic drink. Our matcha and coffee drink mixes contain Lion’s Mane in some form, including fruiting body, or Erinamax (liquid culture mycelium) and Lion’s Mane 8:1 extract.
Lion’s Mane grows naturally in cooler, temperate climates, however Nootropics Depot has successfully grown many varieties of Lion’s Mane in grow tents in Tempe, Arizona. Through this mushroom grow project, and home growing by none other than your product specialist Emiel Bakker, Nootropics Depot has been getting our hands dirty and diving deep into Lion’s Mane mushroom research. Before Erinamax, the world’s first liquid-mycelium supplement, Emiel and Paul’s first experience seeing fresh Lion’s Mane was when Mike from Southwest Mushrooms (Tempe, AZ) brought in some fresh fruiting bodies for them to taste! Emiel’s initial impression of Lion’s Mane was distinct and relaxing, and tasty. About 8 years later, on a different continent, Emiel and Erika chomp down on raw Lion’s Mane, however this time, procured from the mushroom ladies at the Noordermarkt in Amsterdam. A lot has changed since the early days of the mushroom craze, but Lion’s Mane research is still scratching the surface. Tune into the podcast to learn about the past, present, and potential future of the many health benefits of this amazing mushroom!

#040 | Can You Trust Greg Doucette? | The Turkesterone Scandal Just Got Deeper.
Summary
A brand new episode of the In Search of Insight podcast is now online! We invited Greg Doucette to the podcast to talk about the Turkesterone scandal that shook the fitness and supplement industry in 2022. From selling fake Turkesterone, making false label claims and waking up to a YouTube media frenzy, Greg went back to square one and worked to find and create a real Turkesterone product.
Greg Doucette is an IFBB pro bodybuilder and founder of HTLT supplements, and a true fitness enthusiast. We talk with Greg not only about his company and the products they sell to support gains in the gym, but also about his lifelong journey within the world of fitness.
Nootropics Depot knows the power of transparency in the supplement industry - and what can happen when companies make false claims and sell fake products. In this podcast, Emiel and Erika welcome Ellie, Greg, and Marwan to break down the controversy and what really happened when people realized their products didn’t contain real Turkesterone.
We share lab results from Turkesterone products across the market, including those from HTLT's Turk Builder Max, and explain just how outrageous some of the label claims are, compared to their actual Turkesterone content. We also discuss bodybuilding, sourcing raw ingredients, how Greg and Marwan met, and everyone’s favorite exercise in the gym.
The lab data we share on this podcast sets a new precedent for Nootropics Depot’s commitment to transparency and quality, not only for ourselves, but for the supplement industry as a whole. You’re not going to want to miss this episode!
