Tremella fuciformis is a mushroom known to grow in tropical climates and can be found growing on hard woods after heavy rains. Tremella fuciformis is more commonly known as White jelly mushroom or Snow Fungus and is one of the most popular fungi in health and culinary practices in China. Tremella fuciformis is a white, almost translucent, fungus that grows all over Asia and in warmer climates all over the world. White jelly mushroom is also nicknamed silver ear for the way it looks growing on fallen logs where it grows.

Tremella fuciformis Health Benefits
Tremella fuciformis mushroom has a history of being used primarily for skin health and many people today use Tremella fuciformis in skin care routines. In traditional practices, people applied Tremella fuciformis mushroom topically in order to reap the white jelly skin benefits.
One of the biggest threats to our overall skin health is oxidative stress. Studies found that oxidative stress may slow down the skin’s regenerative processes and tends to target our skin fibroblasts. Research has found that skin fibroblasts are sensitive to hydrogen peroxide, which exists naturally in our bodies. A small study revealed that a White jelly mushroom supplement appeared to mitigate oxidative damage on skin fibroblasts from hydrogen peroxide. As a result, White jelly mushroom appeared to promote healthy collagen concentrations in skin by reducing this type of damage.
Skin fibroblasts support collagen synthesis and assist in promoting overall skin health. Damaged skin fibroblasts may create higher concentrations of the MMP-1 enzyme which is known to reduce collagen levels. In some studies, White jelly mushroom extract appears to produce skin health benefits by promoting the Sirtuin 1 enzyme, also known as SIRT1. SIRT1 is an enzyme that exerts several beneficial effects on different types of cells throughout the body. In some studies, SIRT1 plays a crucial role in supporting overall skin health. Research has observed that by activating SIRT1, White jelly mushroom may help protect our skin from oxidative damage that may occur from reactive oxygen species such as hydrogen peroxide. SIRT1 levels appear to diminish at a fast rate as we age which leaves us with a weakened skin protection system. Ultimately, since White jelly mushroom may up-regulate and activate SIRT1, it may be a highly beneficial skin health promoting mushroom supplement.
