Magnesium is an essential cofactor for more than 300 enzymes involved in biosynthesis processes and energy metabolism. It plays an important role in many of the brain's functions. Only recently, a unique compound called Magtein was discovered by a group of scientists from MIT, including a Nobel Prize laureate.
Magnesium has been implicated in many of the brain functions. However, most magnesium compounds have low brain bioavailability and severe gastrointestinal side effects. Magtein is the only magnesium compound that has been shown to effectively raise the brain's magnesium levels, which leads to enhanced learning abilities, improved working memory, and better short- and long-term memory in both young and aged animals.
Magtein currently has several published studies in highly regarded journals reporting its mechanism of action and benefits to cognitive function.
Various studies have shown that Magnesium plays an important role in regulating memory formation, mood and protecting the brain from various stressors. However, various other studies have also shown that Magnesium supplements, especially forms such as Magnesium Oxide, have a fairly hard time elevating brain levels of Magnesium to statistically significant levels, which is why Magnesium L-Threonate is currently the only form of Magnesium that will produce significant effects on overall cognition.
When Magnesium reaches the brain, it mainly interacts with the NMDA receptors, which play a key role in the formation of memories. The NMDA receptor contains a specialized site within the receptor to which Magnesium can bind. When Magnesium binds to this site, it blocks the receptor, which prevents the receptor from activating. This protects the brain from the negative effects of overactivation of the NMDA receptor. NMDA receptor activation, however, is also vital for the formation of memories and this is where Magnesium has a very unique effect. It increases the amount of NMDA receptors in the brain, whilst blocking background activation, which means that when the NMDA receptors get activated during memory formation, there will be a much stronger NMDA receptor response, leading to deeper and faster encoding of memories.
As a dietary supplement, take 1000mg of Magnesium L-Threonate twice daily - once in the morning and once in the evening 2 hours before sleep. 1000mg at night only is recommended in the first week of taking Magtein Magnesium L-Threonate.

Product mixes completely and there is no taste. Would purchase again.
ND Admin: There is 60 servings in the 120 gram jar. A serving size is 2 grams. 120/2=60. There is 30 servings in the 60 gram jar. It just gets confusing because the dosage is 2g. I recently weaned off of Xanax and my mind was racing daily. Magnesium threonate calms my brain and I feel very focused without tension. Love it. I first tried this product through Life Extension but they had a tropical flavor to it which I disliked. This powder mixes instantly with water and I could not detect any taste. I will be purchasing more. HsMom on 23rd Nov 2018
I like the way this product works, but the price just about doubled and the label game went into effect. no reason for price spike.
ND Admin: It's not a label game. We had to switch to Magtein for legal reasons, due to patents. We no longer control cost pricing. It's set by the distributor. joe s on 14th Nov 2018
MG L Threonate is the best. So far ND is the only place I've found that has the powder without any flavoring, which I love! A little bit more expensive than other vendors but the convenience of it being in powder form + getting it from the same place I get everything else is a big plus Unknown on 17th Oct 2018

Man has this form of magnesium helped me. Has taken different types of magnesium for years, with ok effects, but this is on another level. In sweden magnesium l threonate is crazy expensive, so with this price, i say give it a try! Anders Björkman on 12th Jul 2018
This is neither stimulating nor sedating to me. It could be used for both effects. I find that it provides a healthy baseline, sharper thinking, and less muscle spasms. It’s relaxing and uplifting all at the same time!
I do NOT use prescription medications (nor do I condone self medicating)—MgT is the absolute truth. I’ve never felt more level headed.
Nootropics Depot has NEVER let me down. tawat on 17th Jun 2018
