What is Magtein Magnesium L Threonate?

Magnesium is an essential cofactor for more than 300 enzymes involved in biosynthesis processes and energy metabolism. It plays an important role in many of the brain's functions. Only recently, a unique compound called Magtein was discovered by a group of scientists from MIT, including a Nobel Prize laureate.

Magnesium has been implicated in many of the brain functions. However, most magnesium compounds have low brain bioavailability and severe gastrointestinal side effects. Magtein is the only magnesium compound that has been shown to effectively raise the brain's magnesium levels, which leads to enhanced learning abilities, improved working memory, and better short- and long-term memory in both young and aged animals.

Magtein currently has several published studies in highly regarded journals reporting its mechanism of action and benefits to cognitive function.

Magnesium L Threonate Benefits and Uses

Various studies have shown that Magnesium plays an important role in regulating memory formation, mood and protecting the brain from various stressors. However, various other studies have also shown that Magnesium supplements, especially forms such as Magnesium Oxide, have a fairly hard time elevating brain levels of Magnesium to statistically significant levels, which is why Magnesium L-Threonate is currently the only form of Magnesium that will produce significant effects on overall cognition.

When Magnesium reaches the brain, it mainly interacts with the NMDA receptors, which play a key role in the formation of memories. The NMDA receptor contains a specialized site within the receptor to which Magnesium can bind. When Magnesium binds to this site, it blocks the receptor, which prevents the receptor from activating. This protects the brain from the negative effects of overactivation of the NMDA receptor. NMDA receptor activation, however, is also vital for the formation of memories and this is where Magnesium has a very unique effect. It increases the amount of NMDA receptors in the brain, whilst blocking background activation, which means that when the NMDA receptors get activated during memory formation, there will be a much stronger NMDA receptor response, leading to deeper and faster encoding of memories.

    Very good, but could be great

    As a product it works and is great , but for the life of me i can’t figure out why for $60 they DO NOT INCLUDE a scooper inside the container. How is one supposed to measure out a gram of powder without the proper scoop. PLEASE FIX THIS AND INCLUDE A PROPER SCOOP!!!!     Magnesium l threonate powder

    This is a very strong supplement and should be treated as one after taking it for a few weeks I believe I actually took to much one not and had very unpleasant side effects to the point of almost going to the emergency room. There is a considerable difference in mental clarity and calmness but I wouldn’t use this magneisum before bed as it makes you more focused than actually sleepy also I would not exceed the recommended amount and would not take other magneisum with this form . So all in all the magnesium is definitely good and you will notice a difference but beware it is possibly to overdose on this stuff and have some bad experiences

    Amazing for calm, clean focus on 1 gram taken in morning lasts for several hours. Ive had zero side effects, aside from if you take 2 grams during the day you’ll be extremely tired and want a nap. Taken at night pairs well with my sleep stack (Magnesium Glycinate, Lemon Balm, L-Theanine, Sensoril ashwaghanda, Phosphatidylserine, Magnolia Bark, Uridine, Zinc, Tart Cherry…I specifically started taking Magtein in hopes of taming my impulsiveness (recovered drug addict but have problems with urges to binge drink, gamble, waste money on dumb sh*+ and eat unhealthy). 1 month in its helping alot to stay focused and not have impulsive urges. Ive found NAC to really help with that and just started Reduced Glutathione as well for the same reasons.

    Expensive but efficient

    I get severe hand cramping and need a minimum of 300 to 400 chelated magnesium malate to keep my hand from locking up which is more elemental magnesium than the 2000mg of suggested magtein (145mg) i think the absorbation is incredibly efficient.

    Great for sleep, tolerance, and cognition

    I use 2g when wanting to sleep and it helps effectively! Finally able to find a sleep aid that's good for me. Seems to work at anytime as well. I read it's also good for cognition, but that may just be placebo. Taste isn't bad, and I would recommend the 180g jar if you find the amount I take efficient as well. Only downside is it can be a pricey pick for magnesium.

    Once you start taking L-Threonate you can't stop anymore. It's a path of no return. You get an immense depth of thought with it and start to connect dots with increased speed and quality. You simply can't go back to your old baseline knowing your brain can do so much with a substance like this. Indispensable and cheap for how much it does to your brain.

    Evening Rest Stack Bananza

    Goes great with my evening sleep/rest stack. Its subtle and takes a few weeks for me to notice. Really good for post workout as well!

    Even almost flavorless

    This is the most noticable form of magnesium for me, just 1g is a little water twice/daily and I'm able to keep a good mood and I double in work efficiency(preparing 1000+ lettuce heads and half as much microgreens for daily sale) compared to the days I forget to take some. Even in like 2oz of water it doesn't have much of a flavor, slightly mineral[ly] and extremely subtle sweetness.

    I have used this product for nearly a month at 1000mg/day. I have noticed a slight improvement in mental function - clarity of thought, speed of recall. but can't say it is an amazing improvement -just slight. May even be placebo effect. Not really worth the cost to me. I am a 74 year old male with no mental deficiencies.

    Not a typical magnesium supplement

    There's a process by which dietary magnesium goes to the bloodstream, then crosses the Blood Brain Barrier to affect neurological tissue. This skips it. You'll never safely raise brain magnesium levels to what this supplement can. No other supplement can do what this does. By directly crossing the Blood Brain Barrier, this supplement has shown that it can increase the number of neural stem cells available for differentiation into new brain cells. My experience includes what can only be described as tacking a supercharger onto the brain. Complex concepts become clearer. Learning is enhanced and accelerated. I noticed a lack of mood effects, YMMV.

    Best Magnesium Supplement I've tried

    It has helped me tremendously in the past and I just started taking it again daily in the mornings. I don't notice any "high" of any sort; rather, it helps to soothe my normally scrambled head in the morning and dramatically helps reduce distractive behaviors (fingertapping, leg thumping, hair scratching) throughout the day. I've found that 1500mg as soon as I wake up, before breakfast, with a small amount of a protein shake has been undoubtedly effective for my morning rep routine (pushups, pull-ups & squats). Great stuff, would recommend to anyone to try.

    Magtein seems to actually live up to the hype. It provides a noticeable focus and stabilizing effect without stimulation or mood effects. Wears off slowly with no crash or negative consequence. I did experience significant headaches when first starting; I lowered the dose and gradually increased and the headaches subsided. Rated four stars because I can't say if it will be effective longer term. I do recommend trying it for yourself. Probably too expensive for what you get, but no other magnesium supplement has produced this effect.

    safe for kids?

    Seems where this would work best is a kids developing brain. Any info? ND Admin: This product is GRAS approved by the FDA, and is extremely safe. Magnesium is also a nutrient that is needed while growing, but has been falling in foods the past few decades. So supplementing magnesium in children can be a good idea. However, always speak to your doctor about dietary changes for your child.
