What Is Rhodiola Rosea Extract?

Rhodiola Rosea extract is derived from the Rhodiola Rosea plant, a perennial herb from the Crassulaceae family that grows on mountains and sea cliffs in cold, high altitudes in the arctic regions around the world, including in Asia, Europe, and North America. Also known as golden root, rose root, and arctic root (among others), Rhodiola Rosea is an adaptogenic herb that has been used in alternative and traditional practices for hundreds of years. Rhodiola Rosea is a flowering plant with green leaves and yellow/red petals, but Rhodiola Rosea Extract is derived from the roots.

Rhodiola Rosea Benefits and Uses

Rhodiola Rosea root contains over 100 constituents, or chemical compounds. One of these compounds, Rosavin, may provide mood support. Our Rhodiola Rosea Powder with 3% Rosavins is reported to have a potential calming effect. Other formulations that contain more Salidrosides are reportedly more stimulatory.

Rhodiola as an Adaptogen: As an adaptogen, Rhodiola Rosea Powder can help ease stress. Adaptogens are compounds that help the body adapt to stressors while not interfering with regular biological processes. For example, anecdotally, the herb has been used by some to help manage harsh winters in Serbia.*

Rhodiola may promote increased energy: Eight studies suggest that Rhodiola Rosea has shown potential efficacy in fighting fatigue.*

Rhodiola as a Nootropic: Other studies show potential efficacy in improving cognition and subjective well-being. More research is needed to indicate the effect Rhodiola Rosea has on cognition and well-being, but it is thought that these are actually benefits related to reduced mental fatigue and stress.*

Rhodiola may promote weight loss: In one human study conducted at Georgia state hospital consisting of 130 obese patients, those that were given a Rhodiola rosea supplement in conjunction with a low calorie diet demonstrated a mean weight loss of 19 pounds compared to only 8 pounds lost by the placebo group. *

Rhodiola Rosea Dosage

As a dietary supplement, take 250mg of Rhodiola Rosea Extract 1-2 times daily.
