7,8 DHF Capsules | What is 7,8 Dihydroxyflavone?
7,8-Dihydroxyflavone, also known as 7,8-DHF, is a natural flavone found in a number of species that can reach the brain and exert cognitive effects. It binds to the TrkB receptors in a similar way to BDNF, or brain derived neurotrophic factor. When the TrkB receptor is activated, neuroprotective and neurogenetive effects occur in neurons, which tend to affect the dendrites. Dendrites are what reach out from the neurons into the synapse to participate in signaling with other neurons. 7,8-DHF has been shown to promote the growth of these dendrites, and to help restore communication between neurons in animal models. Other natural extracts, like polygala tenuifolia and bacopa monnieri work in a similar fashion, but rather than binding directly to the TrkB receptor, they cause a release in BDNF, which then binds to the receptor. 7,8-DHF has also demonstrated a protective effect against apoptosis. 7,8-DHF can cross the blood brain barrier, and act directly on brain TrkB receptors; which is something that peripheral administration of BDNF cannot do. As such, it is a very promising natural compound for cognitive function.
7,8 DHF Dosage
As a dietary supplement, take one to two 25mg capsules of 7,8 Dihydroxyflavone daily. It appears to be subject to extensive first-pass metabolism in the liver.
