The supercritical cistanche served as a very important component in our highly efficacious CistaMAX stack. This extract of Cistanche tubulosa is made via a unique process which utilizes CO2 as an extraction solvent. Normally, CO2 exists as a gas, or when it is cooled down enough, it can exist as a solid (dry ice). Something special happens to CO2 when you expose it to the right temperatures and pressures and then it can exist as a type of fluid that behaves like both a liquid and a gas. These fluids are called ‘supercritical fluids’ and are supercritical fluids when they surpass their critical temperature. For CO2, the critical temperature is just under 31 degrees celsius (87.8°F), or about as warm as a summer's day. The major benefit here is that we can perform incredibly efficient extractions at low temperatures, allowing us to conserve volatile and unstable compounds within Cistanche tubulosa!
In addition to preserving more volatile compounds, our supercritical CO2 cistanche extract also concentrated much more acetoside than our other cistanche offerings. Compared to our water/ethanol extract of cistanche, the supercritical CO2 extract contains double the amount of acetoside. Compared to our full spectrum cistanche, the supercritical CO2 extract contains 20 times more acetoside!
It’s no secret that we’ve been huge fans of Cistanche tubulosa for many years now, so it’s probably no surprise that we have been on a quest to develop the ultimate cistanche extract! We were very happy with our water & ethanol extract but after trying some higher doses of non-extracted Cistanche tubulosa, we realized that we were missing a portion of the effects.
