Oleamide, also known as Cerebrodiene, is an organic compound and the primary amide derived from oleic acid ODA (octadecanoamide). Oleic Acid is an omega-9 fatty acid from olive oil. Oleamide is colorless and has a waxy solid texture. Oleamide was first isolated from the spinal fluid of sleep-deprived cats. Sometimes Oleamide is classified as a fatty acid primary amide (FAPA) and occurs naturally in animals and accumulates in the cerebrospinal fluid when the body is experiencing sleep deprivation. The natural occurrence of Oleamide in human serum was first reported in 1989.
Studies have shown that Oleamide may have the following benefits:
Oleamide is a natural metabolite of Oleic acid and has been used in traditional Chinese practices for sleep support. The first use of Oleamide in Traditional Chinese practices started with the Jujube fruit where its usage dates as far back as 2500 years. This later sparked research in which it was found that Oleamide naturally occurs in Jujube plants. Further research has shown that Oleamide appears to be synthesized in humans from ammonia and oleic acid.
Additionally, it has been determined that Oleamide is structurally similar to anandamide. Anecdotal reports suggest that their Oleamide experiences improved their sleep habits.
So far it’s seen that Oleamide has interactions with multiple neurotransmitter systems. Oleamide interacts with the brain’s GABA receptors which is helpful for promoting relaxation. It’s also been discovered that oleamide can bind to the CB1 receptor (cannabinoid 1 receptor). Some research suggests that Oleamide effects can promote healthy levels of neuroinflammation by acting on the CB2 (cannabinoid 2 receptor) in high concentrations. Thus suggesting that this compound has potential to promote cellular health and promote healthy stress levels.
Studies have shown serotoninergic effects of Oleamide. It makes the 5-HT2A serotonin receptors more sensitive without necessarily influencing the normal signaling process. It also seems to extend the enhanced sensitivity to 5-HT1A and 5-HT2C receptors with no effect on the 5-HT3 receptors and has no effect on serotonin binding to the 5-HT receptors.
Interestingly, Oleamide binds to the 5HT7 receptors and acts as an inhibitor on the 5-HT7 receptor. It acts as agonist on the receptor when no serotonin is present and produces serotonin like effects at a lower intensity.
There is continuous research being conducted to discover more about Oleamide’s influence and on sleep and other Oleamide effects.*
As a dietary supplement, take one 100mg Oleamide capsule 1-2 times daily.

Best sleep supplement I've ever taken! As a 44-year-old man, I've started to struggle with insomnia as my work week progresses. Now, I take 2 pills of Oleamide each night, and sleep like I did in my 20s.
I've experimented with SO many supplements and nootropics trying to find help with sleep and this is the first one that's actually helped. I typically wake up after about two hours of sleep and am awake for sometimes half the night. This doesn't necessarily help me fall asleep but 200mg before bed helps me stay asleep and if I wake up I'm able to fall back asleep much more quickly. I also find I'm in a generally better mood the next day. As someone that's been on rx sleeping medication for a very long time, I've been able to cut back significantly and I'm so very pleased with that.
I have alot of experience with nootropics and sleep stacks are my favorite to build. I currently stack oleamide, magnolia bark extract and apigenin and it works great for sleep. I've struggled with insomnia most of my life and this stack helps calm my mind before bed. The quality here at ND is good, comparable to liftmode. Highly recommend
I have a problem called "sleep latency", meaning, I have difficulty falling asleep. It takes hours. I used to take Klonipin for this problem, but now I use oleamide caps. They work great for helping you get to restful sleep.
Just a quick review to let the nootropics world know this compound has been a godsend for my slumber. Except for one time, and I believe I've been using it each night for over a month now, I get sleepy very quickly and even more importantly I used to have issues waking up in the middle of the night and Oleamide to this point I'm pretty sure (I also take magnesium glycinate and vitamin c lipsomal style, and I've taken all the usuals; lemon balms, ashwagandha, kava, magnolia bark, valerian etc) is allowing me to sleep fully through the night. Now I'll wake up to take a leak on occasion, however beyond that it's the best thing I've ever taken for sleep, bar none.
Oleamide is a multi mode serotonin modulator for sure. It boosts serotonin metabolism in subtle but concrete ways. It’s also a choline booster by binding to enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine and it is an anti neuroi inflammatory reducing LPS To IL-6 inflammation. Did a lot of research on it after reading ND’s description. Reminded me of trintellix a novel multi mode action SSRI that is for major depressive disorder but also independently is shown to boost cognition over time. It also antagonizes 5htp7 and agonizes 5hpt1A among other receptors and drives pyramidal neurotransmitter activity across the board. This is a natural version of that in some respects. One downside is if you take two at a time, it was depressive for me. If you take it apart during the day and night, it works great. Everybody’s epigenetics is different so use accordingly.
I rarely had dreams before. Now I get them much more often. I get a deeper, more restful sleep too.
