What Is Cordyceps Mushroom Extract?
Cordyceps fungus belongs to the Clavicipitaceae family and many Cordyceps mushroom species are used in traditional Tibetan and Chinese practices. Cordyceps militaris is one of the more studied and utilized Cordyceps fungus species. Cordyceps militaris and other related Cordyceps fungus species are classified as endoparasitoid fungi, which means they are basically parasites. However, Cordyceps militaris, the species used for our Cordyceps mushroom extracts, does not need a host to grow and is able to grow on a substrate. In fact, Cordyceps militaris also contains much more Cordycepin than Cordyceps sinensis and other types of Cordyceps fungus, making it the preferred Cordyceps species for a Cordyceps supplement!
Cordyceps militaris mushrooms have a fruiting body that is elongated and finger-like. They can appear individually or they can grow as a cluster. The name ‘Cordyceps’ is derived from the Greek word “kordyle”, which means ‘club’. The Latin stem “ceps” loosely translates to “head”, which describes the Cordyceps fruiting body’s club-like appearance. Some of the first written records of Cordyceps mushroom benefits were from 15th century Tibetan texts, where Cordyceps mushrooms were used to enhance many aspects of health, and allowing better adaptation to high altitudes. At the time, Cordyceps mushroom was referred to as Yartsa gunbu, it was later named to Cordyceps sinensis. This species is currently referred to as OphioCordyceps sinensis. Now that we have access to modern research, many of the ancient Tibetan uses, are now being verified by science and many other Cordyceps extract uses have been discovered through modern research too.
Evidence shows that Cordyceps mushroom benefits extend to many areas of health. These areas of health include immune system health, cellular health, cardiovascular health and cognitive health. These Cordyceps benefits can be traced to one of the main bioactives in Cordyceps militaris, a unique compound called cordycepin. Cordyceps militaris in particular, contains a particularly high concentration of cordycepin in comparison to other Cordyceps species. So what Cordyceps health benefits does Cordycepin produce?

What is 10:1 Cordyceps Extract?
Contrary to what some believe, 10:1 does not mean that the extract is exactly ten times more potent than the 1:1, but the Cordyceps 10:1 mushroom extract shows more potency in demonstrating cognitive effects than other Cordyceps benefits. However, the 10:1 ratio only signifies the amount of raw material equivalent used in the extract. 10:1 means that it takes 10 pounds of raw Cordyceps mushroom to make 1 pound of 10:1 Cordyceps powder.
Our 10:1 extract is a dual water/alcohol extract, which concentrates both the water and alcohol soluble compounds present in Cordyceps mushroom. Our Cordyceps 10:1 extract contains a much higher concentration of water-soluble compounds than the regular 1:1 Cordyceps extract, however, and perhaps more importantly, it also contains a higher amount of alcohol-soluble compounds such as Cordycepin. Cordycepin produces most of the positive brain and energy-boosting effects of Cordyceps militaris and thus, our 10:1 dual water/alcohol extract is the ideal extract for these supplementation goals.* That being said, we do sacrifice some Beta-Glucans during this extraction process which is why the Beta-Glucan content is actually lower in the 10:1 Cordyceps extract when compared with the 1:1 Cordyceps extract. The upside is that the 10:1 extract is richer in other interesting compounds, and due to this, we also find that the Cordyceps 1:1 actually stacks really nicely with the Cordyceps 10:1 extract!
Beta-Glucan (β-Glucan) minimum content: 20%
Cordycepin content: .3% by HPLC
Cordyceps Dosage for 10:1 Extract
As a dietary supplement, take one 250mg capsule of Cordyceps Mushroom 10:1 Extract 1-2 times daily..
