Why Should I Take R-ALA Cyclodextrin?
R-ALA cyclodextrin is the ultimate alpha lipoic acid (ALA) formulation for bioavailability and stability! This formulation is made by loading R-ALA into a cyclodextrin shell, which both helps protect the ALA in addition to boosting the absorption. The end result is ALA with ideal bioavailability to help you combat oxidative stress and inflammation while also helping to promote metabolic health!*
What is R-ALA Cyclodextrin?
R-ALA Cyclodextrin is a highly optimized formulation of alpha lipoic acid (ALA). ALA is naturally found in the mitochondria of cells, where it plays a crucial role in energy production by protecting the mitochondria from oxidative stress. ALA can be found in some fruits and vegetables but has limited bioavailability. Most importantly, two distinct versions of ALA exist. R-ALA and S-ALA. R-ALA is the most commonly occurring natural form, and absorbs quite well, yet is plagued by instability. S-ALA on the other hand is a lot more stable but has very limited bioavailability. Due to this, R-ALA is the most desirable form of ALA, but in order to utilize this form, we need to stabilize it.
The most common stabilization technique is creating a sodium ALA salt, which is referred to as Na-R-ALA. This form has great stability and bioavailability, however an even better stability enhancement technique exists! Instead of stabilizing R-ALA with sodium, we can also microencapsulate it with a highly specialized starch called cyclodextrin. By loading R-ALA into these cyclic starches, R-ALA stability is drastically improved, as is the bioavailability.

R-ALA Cyclodextrin Benefits & Uses
- Enhances mitochondrial function*
- Promotes metabolic function*
- Great for controlling oxidation*
Cyclodextrin R-ALA: The Ultimate Alpha Lipoic Acid
One of the primary benefits of R-ALA Cyclodextrin is balancing oxidation levels!* R-ALA is well known for its ability to attenuate oxidative stress through multiple different pathways, making it a very capable oxidation regulating compound! One of the ways in which ALA regulates oxidative status, is by combating reactive oxygen species (ROS), which it achieves by directly interacting with ROS, while also helping to enhance levels of important endogenous compounds and vitamins like glutathione, vitamin C and vitamin E, that also regulate ROS.
A particularly interesting effect here is that ALA also appears to be a potentiator of vitamin C, by helping vitamin C get into mitochondria where it can exert its antioxidant effects. This means that ALA can be highly synergistic with vitamin C supplementation! In addition to this, R-ALA also supports mitochondrial enzyme activity and acts as a metal chelator which can help mitigate metal mediated peroxidation and ROS formation.
Another fascinating aspect of ALA supplementation is its effects on metabolic health. One of the most interesting mechanisms here is that through neurological pathways, ALA can actually help decrease appetite! This could be great for someone looking to lose some weight, who needs a bit of help controlling their appetite. On a more cellular level, ALA also helps promote healthy glucose processing and most importantly, appears to quite significantly increase metabolic rate. Pair this with the appetite reduction effects, and it becomes clear that R-ALA cyclodextrin is an excellent metabolic aid!
R-ALA Cyclodextrin Stacks
The Metabolic Stack: R-ALA Cyclodextrin + Sesame Extract Capsules
Alpha lipoic acid stacks exceptionally well with sesamin for specifically enhancing metabolic function. This effect is even more pronounced when stacking the highly optimized R-ALA cyclodextrin with sesamin!*
The Mitochondrial Stack: R-ALA Cyclodextrin + Acetyl L-Carnitine
Combining R-ALA cyclodextrin and Acetyl L-Carnitine creates a synergistic effect for mitochondrial function. These two dietary supplements are able to promote mitochondrial density and overall mitochondrial function when used in tandem. This is not a stack you want to miss!*
The Balanced Oxidation Stack: R-ALA Cyclodextrin + Reduced Glutathione Tablets
When we think of Reduced Glutathione, we immediately think of its incredible effects on oxidative stress. To support balanced oxidation levels even further, adding R-ALA Cyclodextrin to the mix creates the perfect stack with the purposes of mitigating oxidation!*
