Why Should I Take Redaxin?
Redaxin is a unique extract of a Sorghum bicolor cultivar called ‘Red Natural’ that has been standardized for an extremely rare class of compounds called the 3-deoxyanthocyanidins. This class of compounds is very rare in nature, and predominantly occurs in normal Sorghum in relatively small quantities, and in various obscure ferns and mosses. The ‘Red Natural’ cultivar of Sorghum however, produces an enormous amount of these 3-deoxyanthocyanidins, making it a great source for extracting these unique bioactives from. The two primary 3-deoxyanthocyanidins in Redaxin are apigeninidin and luteolinidin, which produce significant oxidation and inflammation regulating effects. Luteolinidin is particularly exciting because it appears to be a potent CD38 inhibitor, making it a great add on for NAD+ focused stacks!
Beyond these effects though, not a whole lot is known about the 3-deoxyanthocyanidins, and this is partially due to the fact that they are so rare. Anecdotally however, Redaxin produces a unique range of cognition enhancing and mood boosting effects, that lay somewhere in between the effects of Apigenin and C3G.
What is Redaxin?
Redaxin is a cutting edge extract of a unique cultivar of Sorghum bicolor called ‘Red Natural’. This cultivar was discovered in 2009 at the University of Kentucky. At the time, the researchers had 2 million Sorghum bicolor plants in the ground. After taking a walk through the fields, Seth Debolt noticed that one particular sorghum plant was completely red, including the leaves. Upon testing, it was found that the red color was being produced by high amounts of the ultra rare 3-deoxyanthocyanidins which normally exist in the sorghum plant as a plant defense mechanism. Seth Debolt saw a major opportunity here, and set out to breed this single plant into a stable cultivar. This means that Redaxin is the product of a 1 in 2,000,000 natural anomaly! Furthermore, the ‘Red Natural’ sorghum is exclusively cultivated and extracted in Kentucky, making it an all American dietary supplement that has been grown, extracted, lab tested and packaged in the United States!
Redaxin Benefits & Uses
- Enhances exercise recovery
- Promotes cognitive function
- Supports NAD+ levels
- Elevates antioxidant defenses
A Natural Anomaly
In initial research, it has been shown that the unique 3-deoxyanthocyanidins contained in Redaxin are potent oxidation and inflammation regulating compounds. Similarly to other brightly colored anthocyanin based supplements like C3G and tart cherry, Redaxin has also been shown in a human clinical trial to help enhance exercise recovery! Additionally, one of the primary 3-deoxyanthocyanidins in Redaxin, luteolinidin, acts as a potent CD38 inhibitor. CD38 is an enzyme that normally breaks down NAD+, and thus inhibiting CD38 leads to increases in NAD+ levels. This would make redaxin an excellent add-on for NAD+ based stacks that contain NAD+ precursors such as NMN, NR or NADH.
Due to the fact that research on the 3-deoxyanthocyanidins is still sparse because of their rare nature, we don’t know a whole lot yet about the mechanisms behind its mood elevating and cognition enhancing effects. Studies are currently underway, but in the interim we can chime in with our anecdotal experiences. Redaxin produces a unique mood boosting effect that lies somewhere between the effects of apigenin and C3G. It’s not quite as relaxing as apigenin, and not quite as stimulating as C3G, but it certainly captures elements of both. Due to this, we find it to be an interesting supplement for mood and cognition too!
Redaxin Stacks
Exercise Recovery Stack: Redaxin + Epicatechin
Initial human research is indicating that Redaxin can help us recover from exercise. Due to this, we think it will make a great exercise recovery stack together with Epicatechin!
Cognition Stack: Redaxin + Cognance
Redaxin produces a subtle cognition enhancing effect that we find perfectly compliments the nootropic effects of Cognance!
NAD+ Stack: Redaxin + NMN
Since one of the active compounds in Redaxin, luteolinidin, is a potent CD38 inhibitor, it makes perfect sense to combine it with one of our NAD+ boosting supplements like NMN!
Healthy Oxidation Stack: Redaxin + Reduced Glutathione
Redaxin has been shown to produce significant oxidation damping effects, and due to this, we find that it stacks great with one of our bodies own antioxidants, glutathione!
Redaxin Dosage
As a dietary supplement, take 1 capsule daily
